Yonkers officials unveiled a plan Tuesday to revitalize the downtown area in hopes of attracting new residents.
The plan includes creating a new logo, adding maintenance vehicles to keep the area clean and building thousands of apartments. Park benches and some landscaping will also be added to highlight the waterfront.
John Davis and June Bateman left Manhattan 12 years ago and moved to Yonkers. They say it's a great place to live.
"There is a diversity here that's pretty wonderful," says Davis. "And it's the river. We're all connected to this river."
A big part of the transformation is the Daylighting Project, which is aimed at creating a scenic family friendly area. It's currently in its third phase of construction.
Yonkers officials say they expect to attract 4,000 new residents to the city over the next few years.
