Yonkers City Councilman Michael Sabatino grabbed a major endorsement Saturday from his city's mayor.
With Election Day looming, Mayor Mike Spano pumped a little fuel into Councilman Sabatino's campaign as the candidates race toward Tuesday's finish line.
"I'm here today to endorse the candidacy of Mike Sabatino for the City Council," Spano said.
It was an endorsement that many voters said they expected but was still a much-needed boost for Sabatino as he looks to fend off his Republican opponent, Mike Meyer.
"I really am proud to have this endorsement, and it's been a pleasure working with the mayor," Sabatino said.
The City Council's Democratic minority leader is seeking to secure a second term in office and fend off Meyer, who recently picked up the backing of Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino.
Meyer spent Saturday going door to door along Riverdale Avenue. Front and center in his campaign is reducing crime and repairing city infrastructure in the 3rd District.
"Our district's in shambles, the parks are terrible, the public safety issue is a major concern, the crime and violence is really bad," Meyer said.
