Wet weather didn't stop the city of Yonkers from honoring its fallen heroes on Memorial Day.
While the city's parade was canceled, officials still held a ceremony to remember veterans. Speeches were made, patriotic songs were sung and taps was played at the annual memorial at City Hall.
Mayor Mike Spano said Memorial Day is especially important for young people. "My kids are 13, 15 and 17, so you have to remind them, because they don't really know war," he said. "They know what they see on TV. They know what they hear about, but they don't know war."
Spano said young people enjoy the freedoms they have today because of the sacrifices made by veterans.
