A Yonkers fire company that was slated to be shuttered in a budget-cutting move will be kept open.
Yonkers Fire Commissioner Tony Pagano, who had threatened to retire if the city's cost-cutting moves compromised his department's effectiveness, says he combed through more budget numbers to save Ladder Comp. 70 on Central Avenue.
Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone has announced major city layoffs and spending cuts in an effort to bridge a $16 million budget deficit.
