There was a final farewell at Greyston Early Learning Center in Yonkers Friday as parents, teachers and children said goodbye to their beloved day care center.
Greyston opened its doors on Warburton Avenue 27 years ago. It's was one of only a few centers in southwest Yonkers that accepts Title 20, a financial assistance program.
According to a Greyston spokesperson, the center is closing due to financial issues. News 12 reported on the closure in January.
Parents were left scrambling to find another place to send their kids, saying that no other place will compare.
“Every morning she woke up, she wanted to go. She had a good relationship with the teachers there,” says Johnathan Reyes, speaking about his daughter. “When we heard it was closing, it was a drag.”
A Greyston spokesperson told News 12 that the building was sold to Workforce Housing Group and it may be converted into a shared workspace for businesses.
News 12 was told that all families who were interested in relocating to a new day care center have successfully moved to new programs.
