Instead of fighting crime, an off-duty police captain found himself a victim of crime after he was mugged while taking his nightly walk in Yonkers.
Captain Gerald Curtis, the commanding officer of the Internal Affairs Division at the Yonkers Police Department, was walking at Palisade Avenue and Delavan Terrace around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police say a group of four to five teens between 16 and 19 years old jumped Curtis from behind. Police say they kicked and punched him and stole his cell phone. The teens got away and Curtis was treated and released from St John's Hospital for cuts and bruises.
Neighbors say they have seen a group of teens loitering in the area. Curtis may return to work later Wednesday.
