The New York State Education Department is awarding $9.2 million to 31 districts through the "Teaching is the Core" grant in response to classroom concerns over assessments.
The money will help districts see which classroom tests really help kids prepare and which don't.
Yonkers City School District received $200,000 of the grant money.
Yonkers will be using part of the grant money to pay for teacher training.

 

The 31 districts that received the grant will create action plans that will be reviewed by the state.
