Three people are on the ballot to become the next president of Yonkers City Council - and they say they want your vote.

Incumbent City Council president Lakisha Collins-Bellamy is on the Democratic side.

Former Yonkers police public information officer Dean Politopoulos is representing the Republicans.

Angelique Lopez is running on behalf of the Working Families Party.

"Coming from my background, having grown up in public housing, I felt like I had a unique perspective on the needs of the residents of the city of Yonkers," Collins-Bellamy says.

"You know you take off the uniform, but you still want to contribute to the city that you love," Politopoulos says.

News 12 was unable to find contact information for Lopez.

Collins-Bellamy has served as City Council president since 2021.

"With the administration we have in Washington, D.C., it's imperative that we continue the work that we've begun," Collins-Bellamy says.

Politopoulos says this is his first time running for public office.

He tells News 12 he wants to reduce the democratic majority on the City Council.

"I think change is good and I think it's also good to have a little check and balances in city politics," Politopoulos says.

If elected, both candidates say they'll prioritize key issues from day one.

"Of course, affordability, education, public safety," Collins-Bellamy says.

"Different neighborhoods have different issues specific to them, but for the most part people want to know that the city they live in is safe, quiet, clean," Politopoulos says.

The different endorsements the candidates have received will hopefully help them shape their vision of a "perfect" Yonkers.

"A perfect Yonkers to me is a Yonkers that thrives, where people want to live, work and play, and raise a family here," Politopolous says.

"[It's] one where residents can age in place, can afford to stay here," Collins-Bellamy says.
