At Lincoln High School, teachers adorned the building with blue and white balloons and banners congratulating the graduates.
Mementos pickup was among the planned activities. That included awards, diplomas, certificates, and special memorabilia that the district purchased just for the Class of 2020.
”I actually like it cause it's quicker and more efficient, we all get our stuff, it’s easier in a sense,” says graduate Cordei Gardner.
There was also a "Turn Your Tassel" opportunity for the graduates to dress up in their caps and gowns and have their pictures taken with school administrators and the superintendent.
“We are so proud of each and every one of them, we couldn’t come together as a group so the district is doing its very best, for all of our schools to celebrate our students, celebrate their families, celebrate their accomplishments,” says Dr. Edwin Quezada, superintendent of Yonkers Public Schools.
News 12 spoke with some seniors who say they are proud to have made it through the year with all of the unique challenges brought on by the virus.
"I almost gave up on myself. But my counselor, Ms. Fucci, helped me, she encouraged me, and she pushed me more,” says Brittney Baez.
