Yonkers celebrated its 90th annual Columbus Day parade on Sunday.
Streets were filled with families and groups waving flags and celebrating the Italian explorer.
"My grandfather was a barber. He came over with his family, worked in post office. He was really proud to serve in WWII, so it's really exciting to celebrate that here," said Italian-American Jennifer Covino.
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding tributes to Columbus. In August, a Columbus statue at a Yonkers park was vandalized. Local lawmakers at the parade condemned the incident.
Columbus Day is officially celebrated Monday Oct. 9.
