Families at the Schlobaum Houses enjoyed a day full of outdoor sports, food and activities Saturday, despite the rain.
Residents at Complex One say the public housing unit usually makes headlines for the wrong reason but were excited to partake in the day's event.
"So many youngsters that need something to do and when you have idle hands that's room for trouble," says a participant.
A few weeks ago, a 21-year-old man was stabbed to death just outside the housing complex.
The event was put together by the YMCA anti-gun program, SNUG, and the Yonkers Housing Authority.
"It's a fight but we are still making progress," says Hanif Walker, of SNUG.
