Work is underway to demolish the Tarrytown toll plaza as part of the new Tappan Zee Bridge project.
The tolls were deactivated last month as the cashless tolling over on the Rockland side of the bridge was activated.
Drivers no longer have to stop, as the gantry system in South Nyack collects the tolls through E-ZPass. If a car doesn't have one, the system takes a picture of the license plate, and a bill is sent in the mail.
Crews will begin removing structures on the four right lanes in preparation for the next lane shift, which is scheduled to happen later this month. There will be lanes closures due to the work, but those closures won't happen until next Tuesday.
This is all part of the new $3.9 billion bridge. The plan is to eventually move that cashless tolling system back over to the Westchester side once the new span is complete.
