A 60-year old woman has been stabbed to death in Yonkers, and police say they have a suspect in custody.

Police say the body of the victim was found around 12 p.m. at the Crestwood Lake Apartments at 63 Beaumont Circle.

The area was cordoned off as detectives gathered evidence. Police tell News 12 they believe they have the sole male suspect in custody.

Investigators say the violence was not a random act and that the victim and suspect knew each other. However, detectives are still trying to determine the nature of their relationship.

People living at the apartments say they are shaken up by what they saw. "It's sad because I don't expect to see that in this neighborhood, but bad stuff happens everywhere unfortunately," says neighbor Daniel Wilcha. "It makes you wonder about what's going on safety-wise," adds neighbor Steven Brown.

Police say they want everyone to know that there was no danger to the public, and they expect to release more information at some point today.
