Efforts are underway to
bring home the remains of an Orange County woman who was killed in an apparent
murder-suicide in Las Vegas, allegedly at the hands of her husband
– a former Orange County Corrections Officer.
Cecilia Apolo-Lobel
and Jeffrey David Lobel were found dead Saturday inside their
Las Vegas apartment, where loved ones say the couple had moved from the
Hudson Valley a few years ago.
Her
friend, Rachel Foley, says she and others were trying to help the couple who
were apparently struggling with health and financial problems.
"Her
children, her grandchildren – they are extremely devastated, as are her family
and friends,” she told News 12. “Definitely not a loss we expected at all. She
was so full of life, so happy. Always actively looking to help anybody."
The
couple’s remains were found after Apolo-Lobel could no longer be reached and
one of her children called police to check on them.
Foley
has started a
GoFundMe to help family bring her friend’s remains home to New
York. She says she had planned on moving back to be with her daughter, who was
recently diagnosed with cancer.
"Her
daughter was just diagnosed with the same cancer she lost her son from in 2017,
so she was definitely trying to be there for her daughter," says Foley.
