A woman remains hospitalized with serious injuries after she and her dog were struck by a car in Hartsdale Tuesday afternoon.
Police say the accident happened just before 5 p.m. on East Hartsdale Avenue by Rockledge Road in Hartsdale.
Police say the 27-year-old woman was taken to Westchester Medical Center in critical condition. Her dog, a black Labrador retriever, died as a result of the accident.
Police have not yet released the name of the victim, but say she is now in stable condition.
The 60-year-old driver of the Toyota that struck her remained on the scene. Officials say they don't expect to charge the driver and that it does not appear speed was a factor.
Police say the woman was not using the crosswalk when she was struck.
Residents say speeding is an issue in the area, and they are calling for additional safety measures, including widening the crossing and adding a stop sign and speed bump.
