Shannon Bobbitt was one of the shortest players to ever compete in the WNBA, so she knows what it takes to excel in basketball and more. She spoke before an audience at the Hooperstown facility during a clinic Saturday.
"I was outside on the courts working on my game by myself," said Bobbitt, who honed her hoops skills on courts in Harlem as a child. "You have to work extremely hard, 10 times harder than the average person that's a lot taller than you."
Despite being 5 feet 2 inches tall, she made it to the WNBA, playing for teams in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
Bobbitt hopes to teach girls that hard work and passion can help them overcome obstacles in order to achieve their goals.
"It's really cool that she's coming to people like me and inspiring the youths," said Amber-Nicole Walker, of Mount Vernon.
The clinic ended with a tournament to crown a winning team.
