A controversial civil rights lawyer plans to produce a witness who says a county cop shot off-duty Mount Vernon Officer Christopher Ridley at point-blank range.
Ridley, 23, was shot and killed by officers while trying to break up a fight outside of a county office building. Authorities have argued that four Westchester County police officers - Christian Guttierez, Robin Martin, Jose Calero and Frank Oliveri - fired on Ridley after he did not drop his weapon and failed to identify himself as an officer. The county officers were later cleared of any wrongdoing by a grand jury.
Attorney Jonathon Lovett says Efrem Burgos, a homeless man, claims he saw Oliveri put his gun to Ridley's head and shoot him at point-blank range.
Lovett is also representing Christopher Ridley's father in a $90 million wrongful death lawsuit against Westchester County.
