Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced Thursday that William Fitzpatrick will be the city's next fire commissioner.
Fitzpatrick, who will take the helm on Jan. 1, served with the fire department for 32 years before retiring as deputy chief in 2011.
He first joined the department back in 1979.
Fitzpatrick is a Yonkers native, a Sacred Heart alum and comes from a long line of firefighters.
His father retired as captain of the department in 1978.
His three brothers also retired as assistant chiefs.
