Mount Vernon schools ban phones, other smart devices from classrooms

The Mount Vernon City School District has banned the use of personal devices with internet during the school day.

This includes phones, tablets, smartwatches and similar technology.

Students will have to leave those devices in their lockers or in pouches.

Parents and guardians will be able to contact students through school channels, but exceptions will be made for emergencies.

Phones in schools will be restricted across the state in the fall.
