A fast-moving wildfire in New Jersey has burned through thousands of acres and is now sending thick smoke toward the city, prompting concern among Brooklyn residents.

Fire officials say roughly 40% of the blaze has been contained, but dry brush, sunny skies and windy conditions are contributing to its continued spread.

The Office of Emergency Management warns that smoke is expected to drift into the city by Wednesday night.

“If the warning comes out that it’s like, hey, you have to wear the masks again, I’ll do it for the sake of everybody,” said Nicole Ulloa, of Brooklyn Heights. “I think that’s the right thing to do.”

Officials say the end of April is peak wildfire season, and residents are urged to stay informed and be ready to take health and safety measures if needed.
