Heavy winds and rain Tuesday afternoon toppled a tree into the middle of Lincoln Terrace in Yonkers, taking out power lines, light poles and a car windshield.
"I heard a loud 'pop' and a little thunder, and I heard a crash, stuff crashing down and falling and then all the electricity went out," says resident Paul Shivers.
Around the corner on Glenwood Avenue, a tree snapped off its trunk and narrowly missed hitting a home on Pine Street.
The tree knocked down power lines and sparked a small fire inside the basement of a home.
"I called 911," says homeowner Lorna Galardo. "I smelled the smoke, it was scary."
News 12 is told four firefighters sustained minor injuries fighting the basement fire.
