White Plains unveils new DMV office at The Source
Today marked the opening of the new Department of Motor Vehicles office in White Plains.
A great deal of residents said they were inconvenienced when the DMV closed its offices in the White Plains Mall last March.
The new location is at the shopping center on Maple Avenue known as The Source at White Plains, which is home to the Cheesecake Factory, Whole Foods Market and other nationally known store brands.
It was initially scheduled to open in the fall of last year and is being described as a new modern DMV office.
Years ago, the DMV was located at the old White Plains Mall. That was recently torn down to make room for a new development, which includes rental apartments.
To help customers deal with the transition after the demolition of the DMV's former home, the White Plains Mall, a short-term temporary office opened in Tarrytown while the new location was being built.
That Tarrytown office closed on Friday.
Expanded accommodations were also offered in Yonkers.
State officials also promised a more modern office at The Source.
As soon as the doors opened today, customers began filing in to the new DMV site.
People who were used to the old location in White Plains were pleasantly surprised. "This is a big upgrade from that," and "This one's a lot nicer, big window, it's a lot lighter," were just a few of the comments.
DMV officials say this new office is more modern, spacious and easy to navigate. The first customers to come in gave the site as well as the service a big thumbs up. "Spotless, I was shocked. I actually texted my wife to say it was spotless, and you don't get that often at the DMV," said another customer.
DMV officials say reservations to come here can be made online, and that there are actually many transactions that customers can do on their website so you can avoid coming here at all.
The new DMV office will be open Mondays through Fridays, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
