The White Plains Holiday Market is officially in full swing.
Inspired by the market in Manhattan’s Bryant Park, the COVID-aware market has open-air booths on Waller Avenue.
The market features 50 vendors and promotes best health practices.
It gives people an outdoor alternative to brick-and-mortar shopping, which was down around 50% on Black Friday.
"What we're trying to do is create an environment that the public will enjoy and that can benefit our businesses downtown in a very difficult time," says White Plains Mayor Tom Roach.
Organizers hope this will give these shops the end-of-the-year boost they desperately need, and small business owners are looking forward to this opportunity.
"A lot of people are scared to be inside, so to do this outside is amazing," says Frankie Rodriguez, manager at Hastings Tea & Coffee.
The market runs Sunday to Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and continues until Dec. 13.
