People in White Plains celebrated the giving season early Wednesday night in honor of a young boy who could have to spend the holidays in the hospital.

Support group "Ellis' Army" organized a sip and shop fundraiser at Sam's of Gedney Way for 5-year-old Ellis.

He was diagnosed with leukemia in late spring.

"You never really think you're going to be in this situation," said his grandmother Kathy Schlinger.

Several vendors paid to get into the event. Proceeds from raffles and auctions plus 10% of all drink orders will go to Ellis' medical bills.

"It's heartwarming to see all these people. Our community has shown up in ways big and small," said Laurel Warager, one of the organizers.

Ellis may have some difficult holidays ahead, but his community will give so they won't be his last.

"They're just a beautiful family and we're just so grateful to know them and that's why when times are hard we get together and we do things like this," said Sandy Daly, another organizer.
