Friends and family of a Weston boy who beat cancer refused to let coronavirus stop them from helping him celebrate a major milestone.
Bode Kloos, 7, has been undergoing cancer treatments for the last nine months, but this week he got the news that he is finally cancer-free.
Originally, his family hoped to celebrate with friends and family in a normal gathering. However, the coronavirus pandemic made that impossible.
To make up for it, the community organized a parade in the boy's honor. Over 60 cars decked out with signs and decorations drove through his neighborhood, cheering for Bode. The police department even provided an official escort.
The family says they couldn't have gotten through these last nine months without the doctors and the overwhelming support from the community.
"For all we've been through for the last nine months and where we've come to today, and it's because of all the people that we've had in our corner...we just can't begin to thank everyone enough,” says Bode’s mother.
His parents were in on it, but they say they were still shocked at the amount of cars that came through their neighborhood to celebrate their son.
The family says Bode's aunt coined the term 'Bode Strong.' They also say none of this would have been possible without the team at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
