Irvington High School's girls basketball team will see a change in leadership for the first time since 1975.
After an impressive 50-year career, legendary coach Gina Maher has announced her retirement.
Throughout her career, Maher has guided her teams to remarkable achievements, including seven state championships and five federation cups. Her contributions to the sport have earned her a place in the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame.
This past season, Coach Maher marked her 800th career win.
In a statement, the Irvington Department of Athletics acknowledged Maher's significant impact: "Coach Maher has been instrumental in creating opportunities for generations of female athletes, encouraging them to pursue their goals and broaden their aspirations. She has also been a dedicated advocate for students with disabilities, ensuring inclusive access to the benefits of athletic participation."
