A partial collapse of a privately-owned parking garage happened behind 50 Hale Ave, in White Plains shortly after 9 a.m.
News 12’s Lauren De Valle spoke to a man who works nearby and uses the garage. He said the structure often has maintenance issues, but nothing ever on this scale.
Press Conference from White Plains
Fire crews have placed about 10 support poles on the first floor of the garage to stabilize the structure. White Plains fire officials are waiting on a report from engineers to determine when people can remove their cars from the building.
It’s still unclear what caused the collapse. The Yonkers Fire Department sent personnel to assist. A spokesman said primary searches for anyone who may have been in the collapsed section came back negative. There are no injuries.
There are street closures in effect and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
Multiple first responders are on scene, and officials say a press conference will be held soon to explain the situation.
