David Berkowitz, the notorious serial killer "Son of Sam," is serving a 365-year prison sentence. But this month, he gave an interview to an old Bronx friend who is now a TV host.
In the interview, with a public-access television show in Northern Westchester, Berkowitz refused to talk about the six murders that terrorized the region during two summers 30 years ago.
Daniel Lefkowitz, with whom Berkowitz grew up in Co-op City, arranged the sit-down. Part one of the interview will air Monday night.
Berkowitz, who lived in Yonkers during the shootings, speaks of his conversion to Christianity in the interview and how he works in a one-man prison ministry. Lefkowitz says the interview is not intended to give Berkowitz publicity, or to help him get out of prison, which is considered unlikely.
