The former president of the Westchester Jewish Council says Jewish people in the county “won’t be intimidated” by the shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue that killed 11 people.
“The Jewish community rises up and fights back against hate and terror," Debra Weiner told News 12. “We do not sit in fear. We are prepared."
The Westchester Jewish Council has set up a security system that they have only activated once.
"We have the ability to put this messaging out instantly to make people aware of things either happening directly in our own community or something like this that happened today, that could be an imminent security threat," says Weiner.
Westchester County is taking extra steps to make sure Jewish people will be safe at their places of worship. County Executive George Latimer says local police are on high alert.
