The Westchester SPCA is set to hold its annual Walk-a-Thon this weekend.
The fundraiser will take place in Yorktown Heights on Saturday.
"We usually need to raise about $1 million a year just to continue to fund our operating budget so we can continue to operate our shelter here, offer low-cost spay and neuter, all of our outreach programs, so we're just really grateful for the community support on a day like Saturday," says Shannon Laukhuf, executive director of the Westchester SPCA.
Last year, the Westchester SPCA helped 1,700 dogs and cats find new homes, including this year's mascot, Trey, who was the victim of severe neglect.
Trey was part of a humane law enforcement case. He and his seven brothers and sisters were all found severely neglected and crammed into a small crate. He had an injured leg that needed to be removed, but he will be leading the way at the event on Saturday.
