The Westchester chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. hosted a free informative health and fitness event yesterday evening in Bronxville.
Members of the Zeta Nu Omega chapter and friends shared tips on how to prevent heart disease, participated in an Afrobeats fitness class and provided healthy snacks at their annual ‘Pink Goes Red’ event, in honor of American Heart Month.
“We are educating people in the community about heart health through diet and exercise, physical activity, meditation and relaxation. These are all tips for them to live a healthier lifestyle,” says certified fitness trainer Dr. Donna Thomas Marable.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year – more than all cancers combined.
For 2020, the American Heart Association aims to raise $2.5 million toward heart disease research.
