New leadership in Albany and Washington may bring changes to laws in both Westchester and Rockland counties.
Holding a cell phone behind the wheel is already against the law in New York State. Democratic Westchester County Executive Andy Spano would like lawmakers to go a step further and ban the use of cell phones entirely while driving. Spano's Republican counterpart in Rockland County, Scott Vanderhoef, thinks there should also be even stricter laws regarding all distracted driving.
Spano also has concerns about funding for handicapped students, while Vanderhoef want to see the county?s sales tax remain unchanged. While Vanderhoef says he doesn?t think Governor Eliot Spitzer (D-NY) will play party politics, Spano says being of the same party can only benefit Westchester.
