The 911 emergency lines in Westchester and Putnam counties were down for nearly three hours Thursday, according to officials.
A backup system meant to kick in as a fail-safe also malfunctioned.
The lines initially went down at around 3:45 p.m., but only for landline callers, not on cellphones.
Westchester officials say Verizon is responsible for the issue.
