Westchester County legislators are considering a bill that would guarantee workers up to five paid sick days a year.

Paid sick leave went into effect in New York City in 2014, and supporters say it's time for Westchester to get onboard. "Public health demands it.  It’s very important for people to have paid sick days so that they can stay home when they're sick and they can keep their children home when they're sick. It’s also a benefit that every worker should have," says paid leave advocate Sherry Leiwant.

However, some business owners tell News 12 they're worried about workers abusing paid sick leave and the cost of implementing it.

A final vote on the measure is not expected before summer. Westchester would become the first county in the state to approve the sick leave measure if it is approved.
