Westchester County's hometown radio station WVOX ended programming Thursday night.

Good Morning Westchester Host Dennis "Dion" Nardone confirmed he was notified Thursday night.

The station, which was on 1460 AM for more than six decades, was long a source for local news and dialogue about local issues.

"How can you just pull the plug just like that without going on the air?" asked Nardone.

The short notice meant none of the dozens of hosts had a chance to say goodbye to their listeners.

"It was very upsetting to everyone and the loyal listeners," said Nardone.

On Friday morning, he and other hosts saw the parking lot chained closed, making WVOX the latest hyperlocal news source to close shop.

"Habits are changing for information, everything is on the cell phone," said Mike Damergis, from Iona University's Sports Communication & Media. "I can safely say as I deal with young students 20 and younger they get their information very different from my generation."

The radio station will be under new ownership.

"It's so sad that we've lost our voice, it's so sad that we weren't really given a chance to say goodbye," said Denise Ward, This 'N' That host.

Longtime listeners are also devastated.

"The way that this station has died in our community its like no respect," said longtime listener Vincent Malfetano. "Like the station was never here."

News 12 reached out to the owner of WVOX for comment but never heard back.
