Westchester County remembers, honors lives lost on 9/11, along with those who died from related illnesses

The ceremony included the reading of the names of all who are memorialized.

Westchester County is honoring county residents who died on Sept. 11 and from 9/11-related illnesses.

"We must make sure that they never forget," said Matthew McCauley who, is with the Westchester County 9/11 First Responders Memorial Committee.

A memorial service was held at Kensico Dam Plaza Thursday.

The ceremony included the reading of the names of all who are memorialized.

One of those is Patti Mallinson's late husband.

"My husband police officer Walter L. Mallinson, Harrison Police Department," said Mallinson during the ceremony.

Walter Mallinson was part of the search and rescue.

"He was down there on the pile looking for survivors. Unfortunately, he got sick from it," Mallinson tells News 12.

Mallinson says Walter died in 2017.

He and many others from Westchester County are being remembered. The memorial service Thursday included those who died on 9/11 and the ones who have died from related illnesses.
