Westchester County Legislator Christopher A. Johnson stepped down as the board's majority leader on Tuesday and may still be expelled.
Johnson has been under fire since the Yonkers Inspector General Liam McLaughlin found that the lawmaker lived outside his district and rented his affordable condominium in his old district to relatives, a violation of city regulations.
The county Legislature voted to investigate the controversy surrounding Johnson's residence on Monday during a meeting, while the issue has been referred to the board's Rules Committee which is meeting Tuesday afternoon.
Legislators elected former Majority Whip Jose Alvarado as the new majority leader. Alvarado becomes the board's first Latino majority leader.
