Westchester County Executive George Latimer is urging residents to follow the governor's directive and avoid gatherings of more than 10 people.
Right now there are more than 5,000 active cases countywide. That's a 25% increase in the last week.
Of those active cases, we're seeing nearly 200 people hospitalized. Thirteen people have died from the virus in the last week.
"If grandma is at the same dinner table as your college-age child that's come back from being away at college, and if the college-age child was at a campus for which there were a great degree of infections from COVID, you understand what you may be risking," says Latimer.
The county also says people should be careful about getting tested too often. Because it's making it harder for first responders and health care workers to get tested.
