Westchester County has learned of its first human case of West Nile virus this year.

The county Health Department says it's in someone from Elmsford who has several underlying conditions. It evaluated standing water around that Elmsford patient's home and says it treated it with larvicide where needed. 

That person is recovering at home. 

Health Commissioner Sherlita Amler says the case should remind everyone to remove standing water and use repellent outdoors, especially from dusk to dawn. 

West Nile symptoms are flu-like. 

The Health Department says three people have had West Nile in Westchester in the last two years and just one person in 2019.
