Nearly 80,000 emergency ballots have been scanned in Westchester County as election officials continue processing votes cast during widespread voting machine problems on Election Day.
The Westchester County Board of Elections says 15,467 emergency ballots were scanned Wednesday and another 63,980 were scanned Thursday, for a total of 79,447.
The ballots were used after an issue involving paper ballots prevented voting machines from accepting ballots at polling locations across the county Tuesday.
Election officials implemented emergency procedures, allowing voters to fill out paper ballots that were secured in designated emergency ballot bags for later processing.
The Board of Elections says voters were not turned away or told to return later and that every properly cast ballot would be secured and counted.
The preliminary figures remain subject to reconciliation and verification.
Bipartisan election staff will continue scanning emergency ballots daily as necessary until all have been processed.
The Board of Elections says it will update its website multiple times each day with the latest processing statistics.
