A former teacher and civil rights attorney from West Harrison is running for a state senator seat.
Republican Tricia Lindsay officially launched her candidacy for the 37th state Senate district.
"I'm a woman of the people driven by the spirit of the people," Lindsay said.
The district includes Yonkers, New Rochelle, Rye and White Plains.
Before practicing law, Lindsay was a teacher and administrator in the New York City and Yonkers public school districts for 24 years.
"It has just been my mission the past few years to just give people the information, to help them to understand the rights that we are endowed with, endowed with in this country, and to help them to understand to make an informed decision," Lindsay said.
The district is currently represented by Democrat Shelley Mayer.
"I am focused on restoring the proposed cuts to school funding, fighting against high ConEd rates, addressing flooding and achieving a state budget that meets the needs of my constituents," Mayer said in a statement to News 12.
