A Wesley Hills man has been indicted for attempting to murder a corrections officer.
Israel Gourion, 31, is accused of attacking the officer at the Rockland County Jail by putting her in a chokehold back on February 10. News 12 is told another inmate quickly ran to the aid of the officer and separated the two, saving the officer's life.
Gourion was an inmate of the jail at the time of the attack.
In a post on Facebook, Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh II said, “We must ensure that we prosecute this individual for the attack on one of our Corrections Officers. The violent behavior cannot be tolerated. Thankfully, the officer was not more gravely injured. The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office has been working with my office to continue the investigation and the prosecution. “
