A weeklong road closure that began Wednesday is creating traffic for drivers in Nanuet.
New Clarkstown Road in Nanuet is closed between the Spring Valley Marketplace and Overlook Boulevard until Wednesday, Aug. 7. According to New Jersey Transit, the closure is necessary to repair a train crossing there.
Just hours after closure began Wednesday, traffic in the area quickly became muddled. Some drivers had even tried to drive through the construction zone.
New Clarkstown Road connects Route 59 and Exit 14 off the Thruway to Costco and a number of other stores. The construction increases the time to get to the shopping center from Exit 14 to 12 minutes.
Kevin Hinton, an employee at the Nanuet Costco, says he may have to leave an hour ahead of time to get to work because of the traffic.
Transport of Rockland buses will not stop at the Spring Valley Marketplace in Nanuet until next week while New Clarkstown Road is closed.
