Flooding in Elmsford halted traffic on Route 9A near I-287 following the intense wind and rain that passed over the region overnight and through the morning.
Drivers exiting I-287 had no warning that the road was closed at Warehouse Lane, leaving 18-wheelers attempting risky maneuvers to turn around. Some good Samaritans jumped in to direct traffic.
Neighbor Melanie Johnson says the flooding is a constant problem.
"A lot of times this happens when we have hurricanes, so for this to be happening just for rain is ridiculous. We are trapped," she said.
Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner says the area is often flooded by the Saw Mill River. The town regularly clean debris from the river to ease the flooding, but he says it’s up to the state and federal government to take action to resolve the issue.
“The town cannot do this alone," he said.
