Traffic has returned to normal in Elmsford after road repairs on Route 119 slowed the morning commute on Wednesday.
Crews were called to the intersection of Route 9A and West Main Street to fix a sinkhole that developed over the winter.
Workers arrived around 3 a.m. and began repacking a 12‑foot hole with new fill.
Officials said a water main break during the extreme cold created damage that later settled.
Drivers faced backups along Route 119 in both directions and delays on the ramp from the Saw Mill Parkway.
Some commuters said the work was inconvenient but necessary to prevent further damage.
Road crews said more repairs are coming in the next few weeks.
They expect to address other water main breaks, potholes and winter‑related issues across the region.
