The New York Yankees have been bounced from the playoffs and many fans are wondering if it means the end of the Joe Torre era in the Bronx.The Yankees fell behind early Monday night against the Cleveland Indians, with Chien-Ming Wang giving up four runs in one-plus inning. The Yankees attempted to creep back into the game several times, but wound up losing 6-4. The loss was the third year in a row the Yankees failed to reach the American League Championship Series.On Sunday, George Steinbrenner had said manager Joe Torre would likely not return if the team did not win the series. The owner said Torre's job was on the line and was expected to produce since he is the highest-paid manager in baseball. After the loss Monday, Torre refused to comment on the future. He said it's been a great 12 years and "the 12 years just felt like they were 10 minutes long."Yankees Captain Derek Jeter offered praise for Torre, saying he thinks this season was Torre's best season. Alex Rodriguez and Don Mattingly also praised Torre and said the loss was not his fault.Fans in Torre's hometown of Harrison were quick to voice support for him. Many fans told News 12 Westchester that they were disappointed the team lost, but still want to see Torre return next year. One fan said Torre has done a great job and wants him to keep coaching for the next 20 years.
