Longtime favorite Piermont waterfront staple Pier 701 closed its doors after 10 years of serving the community with a Friday night party.
People from the community stopped by at the Piermont Avenue spot for one final drink with the beloved owners Dennis and Vicki Whitton.
Piermont Mayor Bruce Tucker also performed at the party with his band Old Number 7.
The plan for the night was to jam out, drink and eat. Pier 701 had a special deal: An all-you-can-eat buffet for $25 a person and 50% off drinks.
Dennis Whitton said it was an unforgettable experience serving the community.
"We've had so many people get engaged here, then get married there, then have baby showers here. We built long-term relations with so many people," he said.
The Whittons said that this closing wasn't necessarily always the plan. They cite inflation, the COVID-19 pandemic, high rent and rainy summer weekends as factors that led them to shut down.
The Whittons have another restaurant called 623 Social. They encourage those who loved the food at Pier 701 to go to 623 Social because it's prepared by the same chef as Pier 701.
