A water main break at Rose Memorial Library in Stony Point caused thousands of dollars in damage.
The water was about 8 inches high at one point, and destroyed hundreds of children's books on low shelves.
The library's director, Jennifer Brown, says the flood was caused by a United Water main break down the street Thursday.
Brown estimates the damage, isolated to the children's section, at about $50,000. She says while insurance will likely cover most of it, she's heartbroken for the children who in the meantime, won't be able to play and read there.
Crews have since repaired the water main, but the library will be closed until further notice.
