A water main break has made for an unpleasant morning in Mount Pleasant.
Officials say the break occurred around 3:30 a.m. on the southbound side of Route 9A. So much water came out from the ground that a section of Route 9A buckled and had to be shut down.
One lane of the northbound side of the road is also closed as a crew works to repair the damage.
Water department officials say water pressure to the neighborhood most likely dipped when the break first happened, but service has since been restored. "There's nobody out of water in the Mount Pleasant area. If you did notice a decrease in pressure, it should be back to normal now," says Greg Wind, of Mount Pleasant Water.
However, Wind says crews will most likely be working all day on the repair job, which means Route 9A will have only one lane open in each direction. Drivers are urged to find an alternate route.
