The Wappingers Central School District announced on Friday they canceled the football game between Roy C. Ketcham and John Jay High School after a supposed threat of violence to the community.
The school district says they became aware of the threat made on social media in which an individual said they would "bring a gun to the game and see what happens."
The Roy C. Ketcham campus was evacuated as a precaution.
"It is most unfortunate that once again our community has been subjected to a threat of violence against or at one of our schools," said Wappingers Central School District Superintendent Dr. Dwight Bonk. "I would like to reiterate that we have zero tolerance for activities such as these and I am hopeful that we are able to work with law enforcement to identify the individual responsible and take appropriate legal action as well as action in accordance with the District Code of Conduct (if applicable)."
The school district and the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office are investigating.
